Disney+ has released the first-look teaser for the upcoming second season of their coming-of-age comedy series Diary of a Future President, which has now been scheduled to make its return on August 18. The Diary of a Future President Season 2 teaser, which you can check out below, features Elena manifesting her destiny of becoming Orange Bay Middle School’s student representative. However, her glamourous dream gets interrupted when she sees the future version of herself, portrayed by executive producer Gina Rodriguez.
“We are so excited for Season 2 and cannot wait to share this next chapter of Diary with viewers,” creator Ilana Peña said in a statement. “This season, Elena will inch closer to the bright future we know she achieves, but like any origin story, her journey is not without its hurdles and heartaches. She and her family and friends will all continue to grow up and come into their own this year. I promise you’ll laugh, I’m pretty sure you’ll cry, and most of all, I hope this season is as meaningful to watch as it was for all of us to make.”
Rodriguez added, “I’m honored and grateful to be able to return to this series for a season two. I love that this heartfelt show celebrates a Latinx family and epitomizes our commitment to inclusive storytelling.”
Diary of a Future President is led by Tess Romero as the young Elena, with Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) once again returning as adult Elena, the future president of the United States, in a recurring guest-starring role. Joining them are Charlie Bushnell as Elena’s brother Bobby, Selenis Leyva as Elena’s mother Gabi, and Michael Weaver as Gabi’s boyfriend Sam. The recurring cast includes Jessica Marie Garcia, Carmina Garay, Sanai Victoria, Harmeet Pandey, Brandon Severs, and Nathan Arenas.
The 10-episode second season will be continuing to tell the origin story of Cuban American and future leader Elena Cañero-Reed as she enters the seventh grade and recounted through excerpts from 13-year-old Elena’s diary. This coming-of-age series follows Elena through the ups and downs of middle school which sets her on the path to becoming the President of the United States.
Loosely inspired by series creator and showrunner Ilana Peña’s own childhood, the Diary of a Future President is executive produced by Peña and Gina Rodriguez, Keith Heisler, and Molly Breeskin. It is a production by CBS Television Studios and I Can and I Will Productions.
